Olduvai Gorge

Olduvai Gorge

Located in the North of Tanzania, nestled between Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, lies one of the most important historical places on Earth. Mary Leakey, a famous archaeologist, is credited with most of the discoveries at Olduvai Gorge. Here, Leakey unearthed the earliest signs of human technology — this paleoanthropological site held the earliest known remains of ancient, tool-wielding humans. Archaeological knowledge gained from the Olduvai Gorge has changed our understanding of human origin forever. A nearby museum contains additional evidence and explanations for history buffs and archaeology enthusiasts.

Mara River Wildebeest Crossing

Mara River Wildebeest Crossing

The Mara River, which flows through the Northern Serengeti before entering Lake Victoria in the West, is without a doubt, the centerpiece of the Kogatende region of the Serengeti. This area explodes with activity during The Great Migration, when thousands upon thousands of wildebeests and zebras battle oppressive currents and Nile crocodiles to reach the opposite side of the Mara River. This event is best observed from late July until early September.

Blue Safari

Blue Safari

The blue safari sea excursion is an unmissable day tour of the protected waters around the islands of Zanzibar. Set out on an adventure into the idyllic archipelago's waters in a traditional wooden "dhow" boat.

East African Slave Trade Museum

East African Slave Trade Museum

The East Africa Slave Trade Exhibit features a series of detailed informative panels to commemorate the abolition of slavery and preserve the legacy of the individuals who were brought there and sold.

Prison Island

Prison Island

In 1893, the former British Prime Minister of Zanzibar purchased the island to build a prison complex on it. However, Prison Island is a bit of a misnomer, as the island never served its intended purpose! Instead, it was used as a quarantine station for yellow fever cases. Today, you can explore this beautiful island by walking along its spotless beaches or simply relaxing by the shore.

Swim with Sea Turtles

Swim with Sea Turtles

In the north of Zanzibar, at the Baraka Natural Aquarium on Nugwi Beach, you’ll find an incredible natural lagoon full of sea turtles. This aquarium is actually a small natural pond (called a grotto), which serves as a sanctuary for the turtles.

Spice Island Tour

Spice Island Tour

Once of Zanzibar's most popular attractions, a Spice Island tour gives visitors the opportunity to see spice farms and learn about the history of the spice trade. Spices grown in the archipelago include cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric, ginger root, vanilla pods, cocoa, licorice, breadfruit, saffron, iodine, ylang ylang, lemongrass, and every form of pepper you can think of.
