Scott Martin has been practicing as a Physician Assistant for the past ten years in Baton Rouge, LA. He started out in Orthopedics and has spent the last 8 years practicing Occupational and Family Medicine. Through both of these specialties, he has acquired extensive experience with Travel Medicine. Using CDC guidelines and destination/itinerary, he evaluates individual’s health risks, vaccination needs, and prophylactic medication requirements.

He is available for pre-travel consultation. This consultation can consist of any of the following:

Risk Management

  • Review traveler’s health history, risk factors, and medications
  • Review traveler’s immunization history and consult on recommended vaccinations dependent on destination/itinerary.  
  • Assist travelers in finding locations that carry their needed vaccinations.
  • Review traveler’s allergy history (medication/food allergies) as well as recommendations for prophylaxis to allergic reactions (for example: an Epi Pen if the traveler has a history of anaphylactic reactions to any particular allergen). 
  • Consult on and recommend preventative medications based on travel destination and itinerary (Malaria prophylaxis recommended for Tanzania, antibiotics for Traveler’s Diarrhea).

Travel Destination Health Concerns

Provide up to date information/advisement on travel destination infectious health issues, health regulations, and the ever changing pattern of drug resistant infections.

  • Food/water guidance
  • Animal exposure
  • Protective clothing 
  • Insect repellant/sunscreen
  • Hand washing and general hygiene 
  • Safe sexual practices
